Richard Gahagan - Managing Director
As MD of Property24, Richard Gahagan has over 20 years of experience in the South African property industry.
Born in Zimbabwe and educated in England, Richard was recruited in London and brought to South Africa by Anglo American in 1981 where he was positioned as a Financial Manager in De Beers. After leaving the mining industry, Richard entered banking and has held senior and executive positions within the major lending institutions in South Africa specializing in housing finance.
Richard holds a Masters in Business Leadership (Cum Laude) degree and is a professional member of the South African Institute of Marketing Management. He studied at Wharton Business School in Pennsylvania and holds a Certificate in the Property Development Programme from the University of Cape Town. After spending some 20 years in banking, and following the acquisition of a stake in Property24 by Absa, Richard entered the property and internet industries delivering online solutions for the property market.
During his time at Property24, Richard's passion for property and finance have led him to appreciate the challenges facing South Africa in finding housing solutions, and maintaining a healthy property industry that makes use of all available options for sustaining itself into the future. The role that technology and specifically the internet offers the property industry needs to be explored and capitalized upon and Richard believes his company, Property24, has the credentials to bring about improved efficiencies in the marketplace.
